More Energy Efficient LCD TVs
LCD television shipments are poised to continue their remarkable growth. Worldwide shipments increased almost 400% year-on-year from 2004 to 2005 and are forecasted to continue growing rapidly throughout the remainder of the decade.
3M offers a wide range of Vikuiti display enhancement films that improve the visual performance of LCD televisions by making them brighter, whiter and more colorful. Designed to increase brightness over an LCD's entire viewing range, Vikuiti Dual Brightness Enhancement Film (DBEF) is a thin, multi-layer reflective polarizer that effectively recycles light, maximizing the brightness of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). This allows designers to manage light in multiple ways. For example, the film can be used to increase brightness overall or it can be used to reduce the number of watts a TV requires for operation. It can even be used to reduce the number of bulbs needed to deliver a given brightness level.
Consider this: if every LCD television shipped in 2005 was fitted with Vikuiti films, the collective power savings would amount to almost 1 billion KwH.
