Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety

American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA)
AAMVA promotes highway safety, standardization and uniformity in the practices and procedures of the enforcement of motor vehicle and traffic laws.

American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
AASHTO represents the member highway and transportation departments in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. AASHTO’s goal is to foster the development, operation and maintenance of an integrated national transportation system. AASHTO develops voluntary standards and guidelines for national highway and transportation facilities, provides guidance on transportation issues and serves as a source of information on the transportation activities of the states, the US Congress and federal agencies.

American Automobile Association (AAA)
AAA is a federation of auto clubs providing travel services, emergency roadside service and insurance. AAA sponsors public services for traffic safety and better highways.

American Highway Users Alliance (AHUA)
AHUA is comprised of organizations and associations representing major industry and highway-user groups. AHUA promotes safety and sound highway transportation developments on a national basis.

American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)
ALEC is comprised of state legislators and private sector members. ALEC provides research, legislative analysis and model state legislation to its members.

American Public Works Association (APWA)
APWA seeks to help its 26,000 members work together to improve the practice of their various professions, thereby serving the best interests of the public. APWA offers educational programs (LTAP Training), conducts research projects, and participates in programs (including a corporate partnership program) aimed at enhancing international collaboration and cooperation.

American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA)
ARTBA is a national federation representing the transportation construction industry. ARTBA seeks to ensure that there is federal support for national transportation development programs.

American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA)
ATSSA members include individuals and firms that supply the transportation industry by renting, leasing and/ or selling highway signing materials, pavement markings and traffic control devices for construction work zones. ATSSA promotes safety, the exchange of technical information and sponsors training programs and research.

Associated General Contractors (AGC)
AGC is comprised of 100 regional chapters made up of construction contractors and industry-related companies. AGC offers information to its members on proposed legislation, regulations and industry trends.

Association of American Railroads (AAR)
AAR helps railroads in running interlinked systems smoothly. AAR serves as the joint agency of its individual members in matters that require cooperative handling. AAR functions include operations, maintenance, research, economics, finance, data systems, legislative affairs, public relations and advertising.

Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators

Council of State Governments (CSG)
CSG provides elected and appointed state officials with the information tools and decision-making strategies needed to develop and implement public policy.

County Executives of America (CEA)
CEA provides its members with a voice in Washington, DC, and works with private sector business leaders to create partnerships with local government agencies and communities. CEA offers various programs designed to foster the sharing of information and ideas to help county members cut costs and improve local services.

Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
FHWA (a part of the Department of Transportation) provides expertise, resources and information to continually improve America’s highway system and its intermodal connections. The mission of the FHWA is to enhance the country’s economic vitality, quality of life, and the environment. FHWA is headquartered in Washington, DC, and has field offices across the United States.

Fraternal Order of Police (FOP)
FOP is a fraternal order of full-time law enforcement officers. FOP seeks to enhance the social and economic benefits of its members, and the professional advancement of all police officers.

Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA)
GHSA is a nonprofit association representing the highway safety offices of states, territories, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. GHSA provides leadership and representation for the states and territories to improve traffic safety, influence national policy and enhance program management. Its members are appointed by their Governors to administer federal and state highway safety funds and implement state highway safety plans.

Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
ITE (comprised of public and private sector members) provides programs and resources for those involved in the transportation industry. The resources include professional development seminars, technical reports, a monthly journal and meetings.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)
IIHS is an independent public service research and communications organization dedicated to reducing losses - deaths, injuries, and property damage – resulting from crashes on the nation’s highways.

International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)
IACP is a multinational law enforcement association with members representing 28 countries. IACP encourages high professional standards, the exchange of information and cooperation among members.

International Association of Fire Chiefs
The IAFC is a network of chief fire and emergency officers. Members are experts in fire fighting, emergency medical services, terrorism response, hazardous materials spills, natural disasters, search & rescue, and public safety legislation. Their mission is to provide leadership to career and volunteer chiefs, chief fire officers and managers of emergency service organizations throughout the international community.

International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA)
IBTTA represents the worldwide toll industry. IBTTA provides a forum for the discussion of issues unique to the toll industry. Members include bridge, tunnel and turnpike representatives from 26 countries on five continents.

International City/ County Management Association (ICMA)
ICMA supports local government administrators and promotes professional local government management. ICMA members are appointed administrators who serve cities, counties, local governments and regional entities around the world.

International Road Federation
The International Road Federation (IRF), established in 1948, is a global platform that brings together public and private entities committed to road development. Working together with its members and associates, the IRF promotes social and economic benefits that flow from well-planned and environmentally sound transportation networks. The IRF group spans more than eighty countries and six continents.

International Union of Police Associations (IUPA)
IUPA is a multinational police officer organization representing officer rights and job benefit interests. IUPA seeks to enhance the profession through collective bargaining, education and the formation of political action committees.

NAPA provides information relative to the hot mix asphalt industry.

National Association of Counties (NACo)
NACo represents the interests of county governments nationwide to the US Congress and other federal agencies. In addition, NACo offers educational and technical assistance, research and various financial programs to its members.

National Association of County Engineers (NACE)
NACE (associated with NACo) is a professional organization of county engineers and private sector members that seeks to advance county engineering by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and information.

National Association of Regional Councils (NARC)
NARC is a member service organization for regional councils of government. NARC provides lobbying on behalf of regional councils, and technical assistance and training for regional councils and local government officials.

National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS)
NASS is an association of state officials seeking to exchange information, suggestions and recommendations for improvement amongst its members.

National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO)
NASBO members seek to exchange studies and research in state budgeting and promote cooperation and efficiency in budget programs.

National Association of Towns and Townships (NATaT)
NATaT is an advocate for grassroots government. NATaT offers training and technical advice in managing grassroots government.

National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders (NAWHSL)
NAWHSL members include representatives of women’s organizations and any interested parties who seek to enhance transportation safety nationwide. NAWHSL supports the formation of national highway safety standards and encourages uniformity in traffic safety programs.

National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)
NCSL is a nonpartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the 50 states, the commonwealths and the territories of the United States. NCSL offers research and technical assistance.

National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA)
The National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA) is an international nonprofit professional association, whose mission is to promote excellence and credibility in correctional industries through professional development and innovative business solutions. The NCIA is an affiliate body of the American Correctional Association, the Jail Industries Association and The Workman Fund.

National Governors’ Association (NGA)
NGA deals with issues of public policy and governance. NGA supports the work of governors by providing a bipartisan forum to implement national policies and solve state problems. Membership is comprised of the governors of the fifty states, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the North Mariana Islands, along with the territories of American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
NHTSA helps set and enforce safety performance standards for motor vehicle and automobile equipment by investigating safety defects, fuel economy standards, odometer fraud, etc. NHTSA provides consumer information on motor vehicle safety topics and conducts research on human factors and traffic safety.

National League of Cities (NLC)
NLC is an advocate for its members (typically state municipal leagues) in the legislative, administrative and judicial processes that affect them. NLC offers training, technical assistance and information to municipal officials and disseminates information through research and analyses on policy issues.

National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA)
The National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) is the professional association for the elected officials who are next in line of succession to the governors in the 50 states and five territorial jurisdictions of American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

National Safety Council (NSC)
NSC is a voluntary, non-governmental organization that promotes injury reductions by providing a forum for the exchange of health and safety ideas.

National Sheriffs Association (NSA)
NSA serves the law enforcement/ criminal justice communities of the United States by raising the level of professionalism among those in the field of criminal justice.
