1990-1999
A Scientific Whirlwind

In 1991, 3M introduced 3M™ Scotchshield™ Window Film, shatter-resistant, heat- and cold-resistant window protection. Post-it® Easel Pads debuted three years later.

In 1995, 3M was honored with the National Medal of Technology — the highest award bestowed by the U.S. president for technological achievement. That same year, 3M introduced the first metered-dose asthma inhaler, free of ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons. New products in 1996 included flexible circuits for electronic products and HFEs (hydrofluoroethers), a chlorofluorocarbon substitute with environmental advantages. Aldara™ (imiquimod) Cream, 5%, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1997.
