Ideas thrive

The 20’s were a busy time for 3M. In 1921, 3M™ Wetordry™  Waterproof Sandpaper — the world’s first water-resistant coated abrasive — was patented and introduced. The first formal product research began in 1924 and was crucial to the development of Scotch® Masking Tape, which debuted one year later. 3M organized its Engineering Department in 1928.
