Rankings

  • 3M ranked No. 18 on Fortune magazine’s 2012 list of “50 Most Admired Companies.”
  • 3M ranked No. 4 on Chief Executive magazine’s 2012 list of “10 Best Companies for Leaders”—a list of corporations who lead the pack when it comes to leadership development.
  • 3M was among 13 companies in Minnesota (and 190 companies nationwide) to receive a 100-percent index rating in the 2012 Corporate Equality Index report for workplace inclusiveness. Washington, D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign Foundation rated employers on policies and practices that are most friendly to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.

Recognition

  • The 3M Hutchinson Plant in Minnesota was awarded the 2012 Safe-in-Sound Excellence in Hearing Loss Prevention Award by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in partnership with the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA). 3M Hutchinson’s hearing conservation program was recognized for its integrated approach to worker hearing health including statistically driven noise exposure assessments, implementation of a Buy-Quiet equipment program, and noise control for existing equipment.

  • Scientist Alan Hodgson, 3M Security Systems Division (United Kingdom), received the 2012 HP Image Permanence Award for “… his support of academic research and training the next generation of scientists studying the permanence of imaging materials; his work on developing international standards on the permanence and preservation of digital printing materials; his significant contributions to the technical literature; and his long history of volunteer work for the Society for Imaging Science and Technology, the Royal Photographic Society, and the Institute of Physics Printing and Graphics Science Group.” The award is sponsored by the Hewlett-Packard Company with participation of the International Institute for Conservation for Historic and Artistic Works.

Sustainability

  • For a record-setting eighth consecutive year, 3M received the ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for its comprehensive worldwide energy conservation efforts. 3M was named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year in 2004 and was recognized again from 2005 to 2012 with the ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award.

  • 3M™ Stain Resistant Additives and Sealers (SRA-250, SRA-270 and SRA-450) received the 2012 Readers’ Choice Award from Today’s Facility Manager magazine. The products are 3M’s newest additions to its portfolio of stain resistant additives and sealers for concrete, stone and other porous materials.
  • 3M won the 2012 Manufacturing Leadership (ML 100) Award in the Innovative Enterprise category for 3M™ Cubitron™ II Abrasives. Sponsored by the Manufacturing Leadership Summit, the ML 100 award honors manufacturing companies that shape the future of global manufacturing.
