3M Hollow Microstructured Transdermal System Technology
With the development of Hollow Microstructure Transdermal System (hMTS) technology, 3M has opened up new markets to the benefits of transdermal delivery. hMTS provides a means for enabling our partners to compete effectively in injection markets with a transdermal system.
In addition to microstructures, hMTS leverages 3M core technologies in microreplication, micromolding and drug product development to provide a transdermal drug delivery platform that allows partners to reconsider transdermal delivery for products in their portfolio that generally were not considered compatible with existing transdermal delivery methods.
Based on a purely mechanical device design, the hMTS platform is cutting edge yet still simple and convenient to use. It utilizes a polymeric microstructure array that painlessly penetrates the skin, allowing delivery of the drug formulation during a brief wear period from a reservoir through bores in the microstructures. The reservoir is compatible with existing injectable formulations and filling processes.
