Backings
The backing is the outermost layout of the patch which protects the formulation during the wear period. The backing can influence the delivery profile, adhesion, wear-ability, and appearance of the patch.

Membranes
The membrane controls the rate of diffusion of the drug out of the patch and to the skin. Membranes are typically used in reservoir systems or multi-layer drug-in-adhesive systems.

Liners
The release liner protects the skin-contacting adhesive during storage and is removed prior to patch application.

 

Tapes
The adhesive coated tapes are protective coverings that provide good initial adhesion and excellent extended wear for transdermal systems.
