Dry Powder Inhalers
3M Conix™ Dry Powder Inhaler

The 3M Conix™ Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) is a novel technology that combines effective drug delivery with simple operation. The patented reverse-flow cyclone technology effectively utilizes patient’s inhalation to aerosolize the drug.
The 3M Conix™ Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) is a novel technology that combines effective drug delivery with simple operation. The patented reverse-flow cyclone technology effectively utilizes patient’s inhalation to aerosolize the drug.
As the patient inhales, air is drawn into the cyclone chamber where a vortex is established. At the bottom of the chamber, the airflow reverses direction and travels up through the circular outlet. The swirling airflow deagglomerates and aerosolizes fine, respirable particles (API) from larger particles (lactose).
The technology is available in single unit dose designs (both disposable and reloadable) as well as multi-unit dose designs to accommodate various therapeutic needs, including:
- Asthma, COPD and hay fever
- Mass immunizations and vaccinations
3M™ Taper Dry Powder Inhalers
The 3M Taper DPI uses proprietary 3M technology to store API on a microstructured carrier tape. This unique design virtually eliminates the need for lactose or complex powder formulations.
- Utilizes active aerosolization for effective delivery without electronics
- Can be used with single or combination drugs
- Delivers up to 120 pre-metered doses
- Discrete, patient-friendly pocket-size design
Upon full opening of the device, a section of the tape is advanced to the dosing station. Upon inhalation, air flow releases a spring impactor which strikes the web and releases API into the airstream. API particles are further deagglomerated as they pass through the mouthpiece. This active aerosolization helps ensure effective delivery.
Ready Indicator – At completion of opening, the Ready Indicator changes from red to green. After firing, the indicator returns to red.
Dose Counter – Allows patients to proactively plan refills prior to running out of doses. Design prevents partial display of numerals for additional clarity.
