MDI bulking agent technology

One way to overcome the drawbacks of suspension formulations is to include a bulking agent. 3M has developed a proprietary sub-micron dispersion of lactose for use as a bulking agent which has been shown to improve MDI dosing performance:

• Forms a stable co-flocculated matrix with micronized drug in suspension
• Produces a more uniform distribution of suspended drug by increasing the bulk volume of the suspension
• Minimizes drug deposition on vial components by acting as "sacrificial depositor"
