Hydrofluroalkane (HFA) MDI formulation technologies come as either solutions or suspensions. Drugs formulated as solutions have the advantage of being fully homogeneous and are likely to provide the best dosing uniformity. However, due to solubility constraints most drugs are formulated as suspensions. While these typically have better chemical stability than their solution counterparts, they are likely to exhibit some degree of inconsistency of dosing behavior.

3M offers formulation screening and optimization for both solutions and suspension, including particle engineering to improve your chances for technical success:

• Micronization (milling 1g and below)
• Spray drying (drying 1g and below)
• Freeze drying (processing up to 500ml of input solution)
• Proprietary microbulking agents
