Moisture-ingression, leakage, and high extractables and leachables are common challenges encountered when developing inhalation products. These can seriously impact a product’s chances for technical success. The 3M Retention Valve addresses these problems by combining an all-metal system with a clean Ethylene-Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM) elastomer. Together, these high quality materials give this valve high performance suitable for a range of pressurized metered-dose inhaler products.
The robust pressure-fillable design helps ensure that the valve will perform under a wide variety of conditions and patient use regimes. The valve delivers consistent performance with good dose uniformity and more than seven days prime retention ensuring an effective first therapeutic dose. The valve's smooth operation with low actuation force and maximum return forces make it easy for patients to use. Additionally, patients who use their inhalers on an as-needed basis may improve compliance through pMDIs that utilize the 3M Retention Valve since it does not require frequent re-priming.
