3M™ Plasma Coating Technology
Canister appearance after 1 minute exposure to acidified copper sulfate.
The 3M™ Plasma Coating Technology provides protection from degradation, deposition and corrosion, helping to ensure technical success for challenging HFA formulations.
- Reduces potential interactions with inhalation components, including valves and canisters
- Offers reduced deposition, degradation and corrosion resistance
- Helps ensure a more stable and robust product life
- Suitable for coating plastics and metals
- Dimensionally insignificant coating
Use of the 3M Plasma Coating Technology on components can help a pMDI system achieve excellent product performance, especially on formulations prone to deposition.
Drug suspensions of drugs in HFA propellants are prone to API deposition on the surfaces of the container closure systems (CCS). The 3M Plasma Coating Technology utilizes a sub-micron, plasma deposited inorganic layer that protects against degradation and corrosion. This can optionally be combined with a fluorine layer to reduce surface energy of the CCS and minimize drug deposition.
Because the coating is dimensionally insignificant and the curing process is done at a low temperature, it is suitable for complex component geometrics, whether plastic or metal.
The 3M Plasma Coating Technology is available as part of a complete system program or as a stand alone component. With more than 50 years of drug delivery experience, 3M can offer a partnership that helps to ensure a smooth integration into your system. Contact us for more details.
