3M™ Sleeved Canister

Historically, medication delivered by pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) has been supplied to patients in systems containing between 100 to 400 individual doses. Today, however, there are a number of instances where it may be desirable to have a pMDI that is capable of delivering fewer doses, including drugs that are used infrequently or drugs that require only a small number of doses. While fewer doses are desirable, significantly altering the look of a patient’s pMDI can have significant consequences on their confidence in using it and, therefore, their compliance.

The 3M™ Sleeved Canister houses a smaller medicine chamber within a standard sized sleeve. The use of the sleeve provides a unit with the same exterior dimensions as a standard sized canister. The same external dimensions, irrespective of the can size, allows the use of the same actuator, labeling and packaging, and the same automated product manufacturing and packaging processes. This provides an opportunity to deliver low dosage products for sampling and other needs while maintaining a consistent look and feel across a product family.
