Print & Direct Mail
Print advertising is a powerful tool for putting your message in front of a targeted audience. The design grid for print ads is similar to tier one and two literature covers, but has been slightly modified to allow more space for copy and other supporting information. Right-hand page placement is recommended to ensure immediate recognition of the 3M logo. An Adobe® InDesign® template, including style sheets, grids, and correct positioning of logo, text and montage on full page ads is available in the Download Library.

Standards
- A 40pt 3M Red logo is positioned in the lower right corner with a 1/2 inch margin.
All imagery and montage messaging type (headline) stays within the montage field, as shown above.
- The headline is anchored to either the top or bottom edge of the 3M montage, set in Helvetica Neue 57 Regular Condensed in sizes between 48pt and 80pt.
- The ad copy block is positioned below the montage field, subhead is set in black Helvetica Neue 77 Bold Condensed 12/18 and copy is set in black Helvetica Neue 57 Regular Condensed 10/18.
- Charts, graphs or close up product photos, if applicable, are positioned below the montage field, to the left of the ad copy block, and supporting type is set in Helvetica Neue 47 Light Condensed.
- The 3M clear zone is a control space above and to the left of the 3M logo. Do not place any type or images (except the 3M montage field, which spans the entire width of the page) within the 3M clear zone.

Direct Mail
Direct mail is used to spread awareness of our products and gather customer information. This customer data, in turn, enables us to communicate valuable product savings and other information more directly.

Standards
- A 3M Red logo is positioned in the lower right corner of the initial panel (cover) on a white background with a clear space of 1 “M” on all sides. Refer to the 3M logo page for guidance on sizing the logo.
- For self-mailers, the return address is positioned in the upper left corner of the address panel aligned with the top of the postal permit indicia. Follow the 3M address system standards for all other pieces.
- Incorporate a 3M montage on the cover and use montage elements and typographic collages throughout.
- Use approved fonts in colors and sizes that complement the design and size of each piece.
- Headlines, subheads and cover copy block (introductory copy below the montage on the cover) are set in Helvetica Neue 57 Regular Condensed.
- For short blocks of body copy, use Helvetica Neue 57 Regular Condensed. For longer blocks of body copy, use Times Roman.
- Always include a clear call to action to increase tracking of campaign effectiveness.
- Business reply and other postal regulations vary from country to country. Ask your agency about compliance within each market.
