Variety of materials to suit your application
Formulation design and patient preference can have a significant impact on your choice of backing. 3M offers a wide variety of backing materials to help ensure suitability and success.
3M CoTran™ Backings
3M offers several flexible backing options including translucent monolayer films, pigmented monolayer films and opaque non-woven backings. The CoTran™ translucent backings feature low moistrue vapor transmission and high oxygen transmission. This combination fosters improved skin health by increasing moisture near the skin while allowing the skin to breathe.
The highly breathable multi-directional non-woven CoTran™ backings provide both high moisture vapor transmission and oxygen transmission allowing for increased comfort with longer wear times.
3M Scotchpak™ Backings
Scotchpak™ backings have a long history of successful use in transdermal systems. Designed specifically for TDD, they continue to evolve to meet current formulation needs. The unique construction of these opaque and translucent, polyester-based laminates allows different films to be combined into a single web. No solvents or adhesives are used in 3M’s proprietary lamination process, thereby minimizing the potential for drug and/or excipient interactions.
Due to their excellent occlusion and barrier properties, Scotchpak backings are often used in liquid reservoir and drug-in-adhesive transdermal systems. Conformable and flexible to enhance patient comfort and compliance, Scotchpak backings are manufactured under cGMP conditions and have excellent safety profiles.
