Press Release

Top award for Clitheroe manufacturers

The 3M site at Clitheroe has won a top award as the UK’s shining example of a manufacturer that brings out the best in its employees.

The site has been chosen in the ‘people effectiveness’ category of the 2009 Manufacturing Excellence Awards, organised by the highly regarded Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

3M is a diversified technology company and its site at Upbrooks in Clitheroe manufactures valves and components for asthma inhalers used by patients worldwide.

The award has recognised the site’s organisation development strategy and the way this has been implemented over the past year. The winning factors included its training and development programme and how the site engages with employees and the local community.

As well as a trophy, the site will also be gaining up to £20,000 worth of free, impartial advice from a panel of industry experts.

Site manager Shaun Morley commented: “It is a real honour to have won the award and it reinforces to our staff and customers that we are on the right track for the future. Not only have our strengths been recognised but we can also build on the advice that is now being provided through the awards scheme.”

The Manufacturing Excellence Awards are the UK’s most prestigious business awards – known as the industry ‘Oscars’ - and were established 27 years ago by IMechE to protect manufacturing and promote best practice.
