3M's a great company. I just knew I had to work for 3M. It has that kind of reputation — even 27 years ago when I first started. And things just keep getting better.
I'm currently National Sales Manager for 3M's Occupational Health and Environmental Safety Division. But I certainly didn't start in this job. I started out selling safety products in Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota. Then I moved to Kansas City and Chicago before moving back to the Twin Cities. Each time I took on a new territory I had greater responsibility. And that's pretty much been the case ever since.
Hard work for great rewards
3M has been very encouraging and supportive of my desire to develop my skills and increase my responsibilities with each new position. I've been in the same 3M division my entire career because there have been plenty opportunities to do more and different things. I've had to work hard, but the rewards have been there.
Changing roles
When I started at 3M, my long-term goal was to be an Area Sales Manager. I met that goal — it was one of my favorite jobs. I was out in the branches working with employees, helping them develop their careers, and always getting feedback from customers about what's working and what's not. Now I'm in a more strategic role. I'm helping to create the landscape and develop sales strategies that make an impact for our sales people. I'm still selling every day — just at a different level.
One of the best things about 3M is that I never doubt the integrity of the organization. The people of 3M have incredibly high standards. That's important to me.
