We are looking for individuals with ingenuity and drive to join our Optimized Operations (O2) development program in one of 3M’s manufacturing plants or distribution centers across the United States.

What we do

O2 is a one-year training program to develop world class talent for 3M manufacturing plants and distribution centers. This advanced program is a full-time position that offers training followed by a position at a 3M site. O2 employees (O2s) develop skills under the guidance of strong mentors for immediate contribution to 3M:

  • Advanced training in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and statistical analysis in manufacturing plant or warehouse operations.
  • Training as a DMAIC Green Belt.
  • Involvement in Cost of Poor Quality (yield loss or rate loss on constrained resources) projects to develop strong statistical analysis skills.
  • Training in Product and Process Understanding (PPU), Quality Engineering and advanced statistical analysis tools (Design of Experiments, Multi-Vari, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Additional training in Supply Chain principles, project management, leadership, interpersonal and facilitation skills.

Is this for you?

Our team members are recruited for specific plant needs and build rewarding career experience. O2 employees complete their assignment at one plant location with the goal of full-time employment at that plant at the end of the development year. Alumni of this program currently fill a wide variety of roles with 3M, including plant manager and manufacturing director. During the training year, O2s will be asked to:

  • Lead at least two major projects.
  • Serve on multiple project teams at any given time for broad exposure.
  • Work closely with experienced colleagues on projects critical to 3M’s future success.
  • Begin work at a 3M plant for orientation and after a few weeks travel to 3M Center in St. Paul, Minn., to begin classroom training.
  • Attend three additional two-week training sessions at 3M Center during the development year.
