To increase personal and team productivity through diversity awareness, 3M has developed course offerings based on the Iceberg Model - a concept founded on the belief that diversity includes respect for all the ways individuals differ. This model is presented to all new employees in their orientation to 3M.

Development
3M’s future success depends on our ability to develop employees to prepare them for greater leadership roles. As part of this effort, 3M seeks to increase representation of qualified minorities and women in leadership positions. While we are committed to advancing qualified diverse candidates, our primary objective is to develop 3M leaders who are prepared to grow the company. We also support mentoring as a development tool that provides personal and professional growth opportunities for both mentees and mentors.
Mentoring
3M strongly encourages mentoring partnerships and provides training, tools and networks to support mentoring across the company. In addition to assisted and self-directed mentoring programs, 3M sponsors director and executive diversity mentoring programs designed to support and accelerate professional development of employees among 3M’s diverse employee population who have demonstrated the potential to assume greater leadership roles.
