Diversity Giving
3M and the 3M Foundation have a long history of financial, in-kind and volunteer support, especially in education, and health and human services. We’ve coordinated funding to education institutions and nonprofit organizations that actively support career enrichment opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds especially in science and technology.
At the K-12th grade level, 3M Community Giving inspires student interest and success in math, science and economics by advancing teacher excellence and college readiness. 3M also invests in college-level programs in science, engineering and business, and provides funding to increase the diversity of individuals entering these fields and programs to retain them.
Our emphasis for arts and culture giving is to encourage arts organizations with strong education and community outreach; to promote artistic and cultural diversity; and support premier arts organizations.
3M and the 3M Foundation donated cash and products to the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. – the first national museum dedicated to the portrayal of Native American life, history, art and cultures.
For more than 50 years, 3M has supported the vital work of the United Way, and the organization remains the bedrock of 3M’s health and human services giving.

Volunteering
3M is a leader in workplace volunteerism, and many thousands of 3M employees and retirees across the United States generously volunteer their time and talents to strengthen our communities through 25 3M-affiliated organizations and nonprofit groups. And by combining a United Way contribution with volunteerism at United Way-funded nonprofit organizations, 3M employees enhance their community impact.
For more than 50 years, volunteerism has been among 3M’s greatest contributions to the communities in which our employees live and work. Our employees are encouraged to share their talents and skills to strengthen their communities.
