Women’s Leadership Network

The Women’s Leadership Network seeks to provide opportunities for women to develop leadership skills and broaden their network.

Diversity Group activities
This active group annually delivers the Leadership Book Challenge, a reading group that attracts approximately 300 participants from 3M. In addition, Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) hosts focused networking events that include networking with executives, an executive speaker luncheon series, leadership development events with panel discussions and a Web seminar series.

How we make a difference
WLN partnered with human resources to develop training modules on alternative work arrangements for employees and supervisors. Through WLN, 3M women have access to informal mentoring and opportunities to network across functions and businesses. The group also developed the business case for conducting exit surveys among employees leaving 3M.

“I joined 3M to improve my technical game. 3M is a leader in my field of industrial hygiene.”

Debbie

Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer

3Mer since 2006

3M employs a strong network of top-notch industrial hygienists on five continents who are committed to high standards of protecting the health and safety of our employees. In two of my three years here, 3M has given its industrial hygienists from around the world the opportunity to meet in person, establish strong collaborate relationships and learn from one another. Additionally, we use technology to keep networks strong and share best practices.

Deep values, high standards
People working at 3M have deeply engrained values. They are intelligent, innovative folks who are excited to be doing what they do. I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with 3M groups outside my own area of expertise, so I have an amazing network of professional colleagues.

Women in leadership roles
Having spent time in the U.S. Army and working in international oil production, I’d been in the minority as a woman. These experiences piqued my curiosity about women as leaders – especially in corporate leadership roles. Joining WLN shortly after being hired was something I did to learn more about 3M and increase my network across the company.

When WLN put out a call for leaders, I put my name in the hat and was selected to co-lead the organization for two years. I also sit on the Human Resources Advisory Council for Diversity.
