Employee Resource Groups / Affinity Groups

3M’s Employee Resource Groups / Affinity Groups are champions of the groups they represent. They help provide mentoring relationships and allow members opportunities to share information. The Employee Resource Groups / Affinity Groups fulfill a variety of purposes that include:

  • Serving as an educational resource and/or mentor to 3M and its membership.

  • Participating in community outreach.

  • Supporting personal and professional development.

3M’s Employee Resource Groups / Affinity Groups include:

The African American Society increases 3M employees’ awareness and understanding of African American culture, and provides a forum for members to enhance their interpersonal and professional skills.

The China Club helps to bridge business and cultural connections between 3M and China, promotes cultural awareness and understanding, and provides opportunities for personal and career development.

The Disability Advisory Committee serves as advisor to 3M and a resource for employees, their families and the larger community on issues affecting people with disabilities such as accessibility, accommodations, awareness, education, employee recruitment and retention.

The Latino Resource Group helps improve 3M’s marketing efforts aimed at the fast-growing Latino population in the United States, aids recruitment and retention of Latinos, promotes cultural awareness, and provides opportunities for personal and career development.

The Native American Council promotes understanding of Native American culture within and beyond 3M, provides support to current and future Native American employees, and participates in community outreach, cultural awareness activities, and recruiting and retention efforts to help 3M thrive as a culturally diverse workplace.

People Like Us (PLUS) serves as a network and a resource for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) 3M employees, fosters general awareness of 3M’s GLBT employees and their contributions, and serves as an advisor to Human Resources and management.

The South Asia Society promotes cultural awareness of the traditions and social norms prevalent in South Asia, provides a forum for members’ personal and professional growth, and endeavors to strengthen corporate effectiveness by promoting an understanding of the diversity within 3M.

Team Austin fosters the spirit of diversity by promoting involvement of all individuals to achieve 3M’s business objectives.

The Women’s Leadership Network seeks to make a difference for 3M by researching and recommending solutions to issues affecting women; raising the visibility of women; providing opportunities for women to develop leadership skills and broaden their network; and reaching out to women, students and teens in our community.

More teams support regions of interest …
In addition, teams of employees come together around specific opportunities within their regions of interest. For example, 3M Team Africa members work together in support of business growth opportunities that match 3M’s technological capabilities with Africa’s needs. The 3M China Support Team is made up of employees who volunteer to serve as consultants and participants in projects to help support business growth for 3M China.
