3Mgives has a long history of financial, in-kind and volunteer support, especially in education, and health and human services. We’ve coordinated funding to educational institutions and nonprofit organizations that actively support career enrichment opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds especially in science and technology.
At the K-12th grade level, 3Mgives inspires student interest and success in STEM programs, (science, technology, economics, and math.) by advancing teacher excellence and college readiness. 3M also invests in college-level programs in science, engineering, business, and provides funding to increase opportunities for diverse individuals entering these fields and programs to retain them.
Our emphasis for arts and culture giving is to encourage arts organizations with strong education and community outreach; to promote artistic and cultural diversity; and support premier arts organizations.
3Mgives donated cash and products to the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. – the first national museum dedicated to the portrayal of Native American life, history, art and cultures. 3M is currently in partnership with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture project. This innovative project is designed to provide an educational platform that will share the importance of the rich heritage and contributions of African American people.
For more than 60 years, 3M has supported the vital work of the United Way, and the organization remains the bedrock of 3M’s health and human services giving.
- For its philanthropy, volunteer engagement and community impact, 3M earned United Way Worldwide’s highest national honor: the 2013 United Way Spirit of American Award.
- 3M was the first corporation to be presented the “Excellence in Mentoring in America: Corporate Leadership” award by the National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR), a champion for youth mentoring in the U.S.
