3M RFID Tracking Solutions is a comprehensive system that includes software, tags, pads, and a handheld tracker. Each tag is a paper-thin label that electronically identifies all files within range of a reader. Unlike barcodes, scanning does not require a physical line of sight. Staff can process many tagged files at once, and tags can be read through folders. The tracking pad is a networked device that programs tags, identifies files, and checks items in and out. The portable handheld tracker allows staff to quickly read tags, inventory offices and work areas, and update file locations on the server. The device also locates misfiled items on shelves and indicates where they should be re-filed. Via the tracking software, a complete file history is available on any connected computer.
