In 1976, Alvarado founded Alvarado Construction Inc. and has overseen the growth of that enterprise as a commercial general contracting firm. Alvarado is on the boards of the following public companies in addition to 3M: Lennox International Inc., Pitney Bowes Inc., QWEST Communications International Inc.; and The Pepsi Bottling Group Inc. She is a co-owner of the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club.
