New 3M Products and Technologies for Reducing Greenhouse Gases


New 3M products and technologies help others reduce their greenhouse gas releases:



NOVEC™Hydrofluoroethers. 3M's hydrofluoroethers replace chemicals with a much higher global warming potential in applications such as electronics, aerospace, transportation, chemical processing, refrigeration and metal fabrication.


New 3M Product Uses Perfluoroketones for Fire Extinguishment - 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid is an advanced halon replacement designed to balance industry concerns for human safety, performance and the environment. The product is ideal for special hazards-occupied spaces where the operation of high-value equipment and systems cannot be interrupted, and where safety is paramount. It has zero ozone depletion potential, five-day atmospheric lifetime and a global warming potential of 1. 3M Scientists Develop Hydrofluoroethers for Precision Cleaning and Other Uses - 3M™ Novec™ Engineered Fluids are a new, low Global Warming Potential (GWP) class of materials developed by 3M scientists in the mid-1990s as replacement fluids for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Today they are also being used to replace hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and chlorinated and brominated materials for precision cleaning, thermal management, lubricant deposition and more.
