Through Penetrations
3M has a strong portfolio of products (e.g. fire barrier sealants, devices, mortar, wraps, foam, putty, kits) for use in tested and listed through-penetration firestop systems. These products are designed to help prevent the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases through openings in fire-rated construction (e.g. walls, floor/ceilings and floors) and smoke barriers/partitions.

In addition to providing up to 4-hour protection in tested and listed systems for through penetrations and blank openings, some of the products also offer additional protection benefits such as cable management, acting as a barrier to water leakage, acting as a cold smoke/air barrier and/or reducing airborne sound transmissions.
3M products for use in through penetration firestops:
- Help prevent the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases
- Have been tested to ASTM E 814 (UL 1479) Standard Test Method for Fire Tests of Penetration Firestop Systems
- Have been tested in listed systems by an independent third-party test agency such as UL, Intertek or Warnock Hersey
- Meet the intent of LEED® VOC air quality guidelines
- Meet current key life safety building code requirements for commercial construction contained in the International Building Code (IBC)
