Construction Joints
3M Fire Protection Products for use in dynamic construction joint systems (e.g. head-of-wall, wall-to-wall, bottom-of-wall, perimeter joints) are designed to accommodate various movements induced by thermal differentials, seismicity and wind loads. 3M also has a variety of products which can be used in static joint systems.

In addition to providing up to 4-hour fire protection in tested and listed systems, many 3M products used in fire-resistive joint systems also offer additional protection benefits such as reducing airborne sound transmissions and minimizing air leakage.
3M products for use in dynamic construction joint firestops:
- Help prevent the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases
- Have been tested to ASTM E 1966 (UL 2079) Standard Test Method for Fire Resistive Joint Systems
- Have tested and listed systems from accredited independent third-party test agencies such as UL, Intertek or Warnock Hersey.
- Meet the intent of LEED® VOC air quality guidelines.
- Meet current key life safety building code requirements for commercial construction contained in the International Building Code (IBC)
