Answers to Common Questions

Vanish varnish contains more fluoride than fluoride foams and gels. Vanish varnish is painted on the teeth; there is no need for a tray.

What is the tri-calcium phosphate ingredient in Vanish varnish?

The tri-calcium phosphate in Vanish varnish is unique; it is coated to release the calcium and phosphate when the varnish is painted on your teeth. The calcium and phosphate in Vanish varnish will work with the fluoride in the product to protect your teeth.

Will I feel Vanish varnish on my teeth?

Most patients notice a thin coating on the teeth. Most dentists recommend that patients leave the varnish on the teeth for at least 4-6 hours, and then brush it off. The coating will naturally wear off within 24 hours even if you don’t brush it off.

Will other people be able to see Vanish varnish on my teeth?

Vanish varnish has a white tooth color. Most people do not notice Vanish varnish on their teeth.

* Can I eat or drink immediately after Vanish varnish has been applied to my teeth?

You can eat or drink as soon as Vanish varnish has been painted on your teeth. However, you should avoid hard and sticky foods, very hot beverages, and products containing alcohol (including mouth wash) until you brush the varnish off your teeth.

Can I brush or floss while Vanish varnish is on my teeth?

You should follow your dentist’s instructions. When you brush or floss your teeth, you will be removing the outer coating of Vanish varnish. However, if you wait 4-6 hours after the varnish was applied, you will still have the protection for your teeth even after you brush or floss.

Is this product covered by insurance?

Many dental insurance companies have coverage for fluoride varnishes. If you are concerned, please check with your dentist or insurance company.

Are there risks to using Vanish varnish if I'm pregnant?
