They're durable, but a little care can make a big difference
LCD TVs are durable and built to excel in many different lighting and environmental conditions. Liquid crystal display technology even travels well, as all laptop computer owners can attest. Still, even sturdy LCD TVs require care. So to ensure many years of excellent viewing, keep some basic LCD TV health tips in mind.
Screen Cleaning
To clean a screen, be sure to use isopropyl alcohol or a cleaner specifically designed for LCD TV screens. Also follow these guidelines:
- Turn off the TV. It's safer and lets you more easily see smudges and streaks.
- Never use normal glass cleaners or ammonia-based cleaners, as they can yellow a screen over time.
- Use a soft cloth for cleaning to avoid scratching the screen such as a Scotch-Brite High Performance cleaning cloth.
- Always apply cleaner to the cloth. Never spray liquid onto an LCD TV screen.
Also, regularly dust an LCD TV and the area around it, since excessive dust can damage an LCD TV in several ways.
Watch the Temperature
LCD TVs perform better and longer in moderate temperatures. Be aware, also, that extreme fluctuations in temperature can cause potentially damaging moisture to build up in a display.
Handle with Care
Although durable, LCD TVs should be handled carefully. Before moving one, turn it off and unplug it to avoid unnecessary damage to internal parts, power fluctuations, or mishaps from cords. LCD TVs are light, but do contain glass material, so when installing or moving a unit, be sure to place it gently.
Finally, to avoid scratching the screen, never touch an LCD TV screen with your fingers or any sharp object.
