Brightness Enhancement Films
Vikuiti Brightness Enhancement Films (BEF) use a microreplicated prism structure to increase the brightness of liquid crystal displays through improved management of the existing light created by the backlight by focusing the light toward the user. They work by utilizing the principles of refraction and total internal reflection by refracting usable light towards the viewer and reflecting most of the remaining light back into the display. A single sheet of Vikuiti BEF film can be used to increase brightness up to 60% or two sheets crossed at 90 degrees to each other can be used to increase brightness by up to 120%.

To use Vikuiti BEF films to increase the brightness of a liquid crystal display, they must be mounted between the backlight and the display panel with the prisms facing the panel. If a second sheet of Vikuiti BEF film is used, it should be mounted with its prism direction perpendicular from the prism direction of the first sheet. Vikuiti BEF films come with protective films on both sides that must be removed prior to installation. Lastly, if a sheet of Vikuiti DBEF is to be included for maximum brightness, it should always be mounted on top of the Vikuiti BEF film, closest to the LCD panel. Be sure to read each individual product's application guideline for complete details.
