Outdoor Weathering decks in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota and other locations around the world have been used to demonstrate the durability of 3M™ VHB™ Tapes. These tests typically demonstrate about 100% bond strength retention after 2 to 5 years aging cycles in the hot, humid climate of Florida, the hot , dry, and very sunny climate of Arizona and the cold to hot extremes of Minnesota on bonds to aluminum, glass, PVC and painted metal.
These and other test results on moisture resistance, UL durability, accelerated weathering, outdoor weathering, thermal cycling and fatigue resistance are provided in the
3M Technical Bulletin "3M™ VHB™ Tapes Durability"
The 3M™ VHB™ Tapes family has proved their durability for over 25 years of performance in a wide variety of applications.
Since 1984 3M™ VHB™ Tape shave held the stainless steel scuff strip to
the aluminum wing flap on commercial aircraft. These panels help prevent
abrasion and chafing between the flap and the underside of the wing
during movement of the flaps for take offs, landings, and in-flight
vibration. Durability is particularly key in this application since the bond can be subjected to high skin temperatures in direct sunlight on the ground and at -65 F (-54 C) at high altitudes. In addition, this cycle can be repeated several times per day.

Installed in 1987, 3M™ VHB™ Tapes holds the mirrored ceiling panels in the United Terminal in Chicago O'Hare Airport. |

One of the oldest and most visible applications for the 3M™ VHB™ Tapes is on ambulance bodies. The aluminum panels comprising the body of an ambulance can be bonded on to the frame with 3M™ VHB™ Tapes. These applications require durability in harsh conditions on rugged vehicles that are in service for many years. 3M™ VHB™ Tapes have been used for this application since 1980.
