Sign Enhancement Program Sign Enhancement Program
Sign enhancement is needed now to meet changing retroreflectivity standards, population characteristics and vehicle diversity. Safer roads are possible with retroreflective signs designed to optimize headlamp illumination and accomodate the geometries, vehicle disparities and human factors that are today's driving environment. Leading retroreflective sheeting manufacturers such as 3M are taking the initiative to bring better sign technology to the road.
Safe Routes to School Safe Routes to School
In 2006, Congress put funding in the current federal highway bill (SAFETEA-LU) to address national concern for our children's health and safety -- the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) initiative. 3M products and expertise help agencies develop on-target SRTS funding requests for school zone safety-improvement projects.

High Risk Rural Road Safety High Risk Rural Road Safety
Congress put funding in the current federal highway bill “SAFETEA-LU” because of serious national concern for safety on rural roads. The High Risk Rural Roads Program (HRRRP) provides $360 million with the goal to cut traffic deaths and injuries on public roads by 20 percent by 2008. Federal funding is earmarked for low-cost solutions that improve rural driving safety. Learn more about the issues and 3M solutions for High Risk Rural Roads.

City County Safety Inititives City County Safety Inititives
"Safe Communities" teaches people that motor vehicle injuries, the leading cause of death for people ages 6 to 28, are predictable and preventable; it suggests ways in which the community can analyze and reduce accidents along with their resulting costs and consequences. 3M solutions can help.

Rail-Highway Grade Crossing Safety Rail-Highway Grade Crossing Safety
Deaths and injuries at rail crossings are a major safety concern. Vehicle/train collisions are more severe than other highway crashes; a driver is 30 times more likely to be killed in a rail crossing collision. Improved reflective material at crossings and approaches are among the recommended safety improvements.
