Colorado-based Spyder Active Sports, Inc. and 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation have entered into a formal four-year partnership. This alliance will further integrate the best in class technical and performance attributes of 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation with Spyder's ever-evolving collection of premium technical winter sport apparel.

Previously, Spyder and 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation had partnered to jointly support the U.S. and Canadian Alpine Ski Teams. Moving forward, the brands will enjoy a closer connection; they'll be positioned together at on-snow events and in widely viewed media including Spyder's website, social networks and in films produced by Warren Miller Entertainment.

Spyder is also collaborating with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation on new garment technologies for 2013 and beyond. They will also increasingly employ 3M products to convey its marketing messages through brand icons such as the Spyder Land Yacht and through its eye-catching fleet of custom-wrapped Audis – a product of a Spyder / Audi collaboration.

"Spyder's relationship with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation goes fathoms deeper than just employing their insulation technologies in our products," said Russ Rowan, Spyder's VP of Sales and Global Marketing. "We envision a long-term relationship that serves to really activate 3M and the products they represent within the winter sports industry – creating a tangible connection for snow enthusiasts between their comfort on the slopes and the numerous and compelling tech stories the 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation family of products has to offer." Rowan added: "Leading up to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, we aim to increase consumer awareness around both brands through a worldwide synergistic alliance."

"We're proud to participate in an alliance with Spyder and their state-of-the-art brand, " said Jeff Gunia, Global Business Manager at 3M. "Winter sports enthusiasts look for the best of the best when they enjoy their outdoor activities – even in sub-zero temperatures. For more than a decade, 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation and Spyder have collectively created premier outerwear by capitalizing on the strengths each bring to the relationship. We're a good match."

3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation Announces Partnership with Burton Snowboards

St. Paul, Minn., Dec. 1, 2011 -- 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation is pleased to be the Official Outerwear Insulation Supplier to Burton Snowboards for the next four years, effective January 2012.

Teaming with Burton reinforces the significance of the 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation brand and the new labeling and hang tag system that the brand recently launched. The system allows customers and retailers to easily differentiate advanced, high-performance solutions from conventional applications.

Burton has been an early adopter of the new branding and merchandising system, introducing 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation into their outerwear lines in the 2010-2011 seasons. Burton has now taken the new system a step further by offering Trail Mapping. Trail Mapping is Burton's exclusive, new strategically designed outerwear lining and insulation system that places variable levels of 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation in areas of the jacket where snowboarders need warmth the most.

"It's exciting to bring together the expertise of two innovative companies. This collaboration with Burton can help get riders into warmer, more comfortable, high-tech outerwear," said Jeffery Gunia, Global Business Manager at 3M.

"I look forward to expanding our collaboration with 3M™ Thinsulate™ to bring new technologies to the marketplace and improve the insulation properties of snowboard outerwear," said John Lacy, Executive Vice President of Product & North American Sales at Burton. "3M's technical expertise combined with Burton's commitment to creating the most progressive snowboarding outerwear makes for a great long-term partnership."

3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation Sponsors the Burton U.S. Open

3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation was once again the official insulation supplier to the Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships (USO).

Last year, at the 30th anniversary of the Burton USO in Stratton, Vermont, Thinsulate insulation sponsored the event for the first time, using a pop-up tent to display products and talk to attendees about the science of warmth held.

At this year’s Burton USO, held from February 26 to March 3 in Vail, CO, Thinsulate insulation upped the ante with more demonstrations and double our onsite space. People stopped by the booth to check out the newest in Thinsulate insulation technology, including the 20 x 20 tent lined with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Platinum Insulation FR (designed for military use), 3M™ Thermal Orthopedic Insoles and new Burton apparel incorporating Thinsulate insulation. And, in the spirit of the event, the inside of the tent had a snowboard shop feel and a 50” screen with live feed so no one missed any of the action.

For those of you who didn’t make it to Vail, you may have seen the broadcast on Universal Sports and NBC. During the broadcast, the Burton and 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation commercial premiered, featuring Hannah Teter and Mark Sollors. Check out for results and recap.

Thermal Standard for Workers Takes Significant Step for Performance and Protection

Workers who are exposed to extreme cold‐weather conditions often combat low temperatures with multiple layers and thick garments. And while this approach has acted as the informal industry norm, a new standard from the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) now makes it possible to apply more science to this challenge and help workers choose the right protection for their outdoor and cold environment occupational needs. View the full article on the new thermal standard.
