What makes the difference?
Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation is a unique insulation that provides a lot of warmth for very little weight. A blend of polyester and polyolefin fine denier fibers, Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation retains its insulating ability in damp conditions and dries quickly and easily. It is also hypo-allergenic and machine washable.
A word about our fibers
Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation performs well because its fine fibers create a lot of insulating air space and reflect back much of your body's radiant heat.
Fiber blend. Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation incorporates a unique blend of fibers developed by 3M proprietary technology to achieve extremely high insulation values. Like natural insulation, Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation features two fiber sizes to maintain good structure and high insulating values. The end product is more weight-efficient and hypo-allergenic.
Fine fibers. Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation fibers are all less than 15 microns in diameter. That's finer than the human hair. Finer fibers more efficiently block radiant heat given off from your body, so you stay warmer.
Low-density matrix. The fiber structure of Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation is specially formed to achieve the most loft with the fewest fibers. This results in a lightweight insulation.
Why Thinsulate™ Lite Loft™ Insulation is so effective
It's a general principle of insulation that the more dead air space between you and the cold, the warmer you'll stay. That's why loft is an important characteristic of an insulation. Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation has the highest loft-to-weight ratio of any synthetic insulation—which goes a long way toward explaining why it keeps you so warm.
Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation is highly compressible. This way, your garments will not only be very warm, very light and very lofty, but will also pack down to a very small size when you take them with you—and then fluff back up quickly when unpacked.
What's more, unlike down, Thinsulate™ Lite Loft insulation retains its insulating ability in wet conditions. It absorbs less than 1% of its weight in water, so it keeps you warm under damp conditions and dries quickly.
