3M™ Tegaderm™ CHG Dressings are the only transparent IV site dressings integrated with a CHG gel pad proven to reduce skin flora,† a leading cause of costly, non-reimbursed CRBSIs.*
In the last three decades, the number of bloodstream infections has nearly tripled in the U.S., with central venous catheters (CVCs) accounting for up to 90% of all catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs).5 CRBSIs are one of the most costly and deadly infections transmitted in healthcare facilities. CRBSIs can lead to increased costs associated with extended hospital stays, illness and death.
One of the major risk factors contributing to CRBSIs is skin organisms (flora) at the catheter insertion site.6 The CDC recommends the use of products containing CHG as one of the top five performance strategies found to be successful in reducing CRBSIs.4
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) considers CRBSIs to be ‘Never Events’ which are defined as “adverse events that are serious, largely preventable, and of concern to both the public and health care providers for the purpose of public accountability.” Several states have enacted laws requiring the disclosure of Never Events at hospitals and various remunerative or punitive measures for such events. CMS no longer reimburses for hospital-acquired CRBSIs, and other Never Events, and many private insurers are now following suit. Increasing media attention to hospital infections has raised public awareness of CRBSIs.
