Supports Best Practices and Protocols

Transparent Dressings

The CDC and the INS recommend transparent dressings because they allow continuous site observation.

CDC/HICPAC Guidelines for the Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infections (2002)
“Transparent dressings reliably secure the device, permit continuous visual inspection of the catheter site...and require less frequent changes than do standard gauze and tape dressings; the use of these dressings saves personnel time.”

The Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice (2008)
Standard 51.2: “Catheter site care shall allow for observation and evaluation of the catheter-skin junction and surrounding tissue.”

Standard 56, Infection Practice, Criteria E: “Catheter insertion sites should be observed for redness, edema, induration, temperature changes and drainage.”

CHG-Impregnated Dressings

The SHEA Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections in Acute Care Hospitals, for the first time, recommends the use of a chlorhexidine-impregnated sponge dressing for the prevention of CRBSIs.

Supports Existing Protocols

Research has shown Tegaderm™ CHG Dressings are easy to use and fit into clinical practice as easily as standard Tegaderm™ brand transparent dressings. Clinical Performance of a New Transparent Chlorhexidine Gluconate Central Venous Catheter Dressing

The integrated, one-step CHG and transparent dressings help to improve compliance to facility protocol. The intuitive design is clinician-friendly and easy-of-application minimizes opportunity for error. The CHG antimicrobial cannot be applied incorrectly or forgotten.

“Our nursing staff loves Tegaderm™ CHG for its simplicity. You simply can’t forget a step in the application process like you can with other dressings that require a separate CHG patch.”
Pat Catadul, Pediatric Vascular Access Nurse, Boston, MA
