Work Wear – Law Enforcement

NLEOMF and 3M Team Up

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material are teaming up again in 2010 to urge motorists and police officers to exercise care on the roadways and keep America’s peace officers safe.

NLEOMF works to increase public support for law enforcement by permanently recording and appropriately commemorating the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers, and to provide information that promotes law enforcement safety.

2009 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices

The Federal Register Final Rule and revised document of the 2009 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) was released on December 16, 2009. The use of ANSI/ISEA 107-2006 Public Safety vest compliant garments is included as an option for emergency and incident responders and law enforcement officers to meeting requirements of this regulation in lieu of ANSI/ISEA 107-2004.

“When uniformed law enforcement personnel are used to direct traffic, to investigate crashes, or to handle lane closures, obstructed roadways, and disasters, high-visibility safety apparel as described in this Section shall be worn by the law enforcement personnel.”

“Law enforcement officers performing school crossing supervision and adult crossing guards shall wear high-visibility retroreflective safety apparel labeled as ANSI 107-2004 standard performance for Class 2 as described in Section 6E.02” Labeling requirements may need additional clarification, however.

Protect our Protectors

3M committed $10,000 to NLEOMF in support of NLEOMF’s “Drive Safely” campaign in 2010. This campaign is a nationwide public information and awareness effort that reminds motorists to be careful around emergency vehicles and to slow down and move over when they see police officers stopped by the side of the road.

3M was again proud to participate at the 2nd Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at Dover International Speedway with an appearance by 3M/NASCAR driver Greg Biffle. The event was held on May 16, 2010.
