Frequently Asked Questions (Click on question to reveal the answer)
Q: On what materials and fabrics can I use Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector?
A: This product works great on most fabrics! Whether natural fabrics like cotton
& wool, synthetic fabrics like polyester & nylon, or delicate fabrics like silk;
you can use Scotchgard™ Fabrics & Upholstery Protector. (It is always good to test
in an inconspicuous spot for color bleeding.) We do not recommend using on rugs, carpets,
suede, plastics, or vinyl. On upholstery, check furniture manufacturer's care and warranty
information. Examples of usage include: sofa, chairs, auto upholstery, camper & rv's,
clothing, silk ties & blouses, delicate fabrics, wool, quilts, throw pillows, table
linens, place mats, window treatments, crafts, canvas shoes, & more!
Q: My upholstery has a cleanability code on it - what does this mean?
A: Some color dyes used in certain fabrics will bleed if washed with water; some will bleed if cleaned with solvents. The cleanability code will state whether the fabric color is safe to clean with water (W), solvents (S), or both (W/S). The multi-use Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector can be used safely with S and W/S coded fabrics. (We always recommend testing in an inconspicuous area first and following all directions and precautions on the label. In addition, check furniture manufacturer's care and warranty information as some cushion materials may not be compatible leading to potential fabric staining.)
Q: Can I use Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector for 'X'-coded fabrics?
A: We do not recommend using on fabrics with Cleanability codes of 'X.' 'X' stands for brush only and shouldn't be cleaned with water or solvents.
Q: How long does it take to dry?
A: Under average room temperature conditions (70°F, 50% Humidity), most objects
should be dry in 24 hours. Always be sure to check before wearing the
treated areas. Longer dry times could occur under the following conditions: colder temperatures,
more humid conditions, or heavy applications. Providing for proper ventilation for the product
will also provide a quicker dry time in most conditions.
