About this Webcast
This program will provide you with information on site care for peripheral andcentral lines, as well as guidelines for site assessment that can help you prevent the most common complications associated with vascular access devices.

The program is 60 minutes in length.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the two primary types of catheter dressings and review key usage pros and cons.
  2. Recognize the CDC Guidelines and the INS Standards that affect how and when I.V. catheter dressings are changed.
  3. Review application techniques that can increase the adhesion of transparent adhesive dressings.
  4. Name two ways to remove transparent adhesive dressings and identify the types of skin injuries that can occur when they are improperly removed.
  5. Identify the three most common catheter-related complications and their symptoms.
  6. Describe taping techniques to stabilize and secure catheters using modified dressings.
  7. Explain why close site assessment and documentation are important to  preventing serious catheter-related complications.
