Clinical Condition:
Implanted Port: A central venous catheter surgically tunneled beneath the skin, placed into a vessel (subclavian or internal jugular vein) or body cavity and attached to a reservoir located under the skin. The stainless steel, plastic, or titanium reservoir has a silicone septum in the center which is accessed with a "Huber" needle. With the advent of needle-safe devices, some Huber needles have a higher profile, requiring a larger sized dressing to secure the needle. This catheter has the lowest risk for CRBSI. |
