New generation 3M proppants application in hydraulic fracturing
One of the new areas of development for 3M are additives for hydraulic fracturing with ultra-lightweight proppants that withstand pressure up to 8000 PSI allowing them to securely fix the fracture in the open position. First place awarded to 3M ESK Ceramics at BG's Chief Executive Innovation Awards 2013. (December 2013)
ESK Ceramics, a Kempten 3M subsidiary, was awarded first place within the "integrated technology application" category; one of only three award categories, for harnessing the use of ceramic sand screens to increase gas production from underperforming wells.

3M wins the '2013 Arts and Business Scotland' award for Cultural Branding after providing an unexpected fusion between technology, art and science during British Science Week at an Aberdeen art gallery with a special exhibition made entirely from 3M products. (November 2013)
