History of 3M Nevada

• Plans for the 3M Nevada plant were announced in December of 1966 and finalized in November of 1968.

• Construction began in March of 1970 on the original 262,000 sq. ft. facility.

• Plant operation began in August of 1971.

• The first plant “open house” was held in October of 1972 with Governor Warren Hearnes conducting the ribbon cutting ceremony. 2,300 people toured the plant.

Expansions
To meet expanding market needs, the 3M Nevada plant has undergone a number of expansions over the years.

• 110,000 sq. ft. addition in 1974-1975

• 138,000 sq. ft. addition in 1979-1980

• 100,000 sq. ft. addition in 1990-1992

• 48,700 sq. ft. addition in 1995-1996

• 55,900 sq. ft. addition in 1996-1998

• 54,200 sq. ft. addition in 1998-1999

The plant is currently a 769,000 sq. ft. facility.
