Georgia Fulfillment Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
As with many motor vehicle agencies across the country, the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) was interested in improving service to motorists, reducing operational costs, and streamlining their supply chain processes.
The Georgia DOR partnered with 3M to help address the challenges they faced within the license plate supply chain process. The goal for both parties was to increase efficiencies in the production and delivery of motor vehicle license plates and registrations for over 9.5 million vehicle registrations.
The DOR moved from a manual manufacturing and distribution process to an on-demand fulfillment process. The new streamlined process will significantly decrease the amount of time it takes a taxpayer to receive their license plate. The plates will now be digitally printed, rather than embossed, offering more flexibility in terms of color and design. The digital printing process will also allow DOR to significantly reduce its inventory carrying cost due to the new on-demand process. Georgia taxpayers will not incur any added expense for production of the new license plate.
Commissioner Doug MacGinnite opened the South Meadow facility by cutting the ribbon on March 21, 2012. MacGinnite commented, "We are excited to start production and distribution of the new Georgia tags at the South Meadow facility. This is a great step forward in providing improved service to our motorists while streamlining our processes and reducing costs."
The Georgia Department of Revenue became the third jurisdiction in the US to implement 3M Registration Fulfillment Services. South Carolina and Indiana successfully implemented similar programs in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
3M™ Registration Fulfillment Services offer state agencies an alternative to traditional supply chain processes, where they may be burdened with large inventories that carry risk of spoilage. With 3M's on-demand transactional based fulfillment services, the motor vehicle agency pays for the completed registration as they are issued to the motorists. Ultimately creating savings and improving service to the motorist.
