The Basics of Fiber Training

This workshop provides the technician with the theory and skills to perform common fiber optic work operations in the field, including fiber optic connector installation and mechanical fiber splicing and is optimized for entry level and experienced field technicians as well as supervisors and managers. Copper Outside Plant Training

This workshop provides the technician with the theory and skills to perform common work operations in the field, including the installation of copper splice connectors and closures. Passive Optical LAN (POLS) Training

Training courses are available for 3M for Passive Optical LAN Solution (POLS) products. The training covers not just the installation of the product, but also the approved method of testing. After successful completion of the course, the trainee should be able to:

  • Describe the features and benefits of the 3M products and system and know where they can be successfully installed
  • Successfully and efficiently assemble the 3M product with high yield
  • Test and troubleshoot installations
  • Know how to apply for an installed system warranty

Course content will include proper installation, assembly, and hands-on use of the following:

  • 3M Fiber Apparatus :
    • Fiber distribution units and terminals
    • Splitter shelves and modules
    • MPO fan-out modules
    • Faceplates and wall outlets
  • 3M Passive Optical LAN Fiber Cables, Trunk Cables and Patch Cords
  • 3M Fiber Connectors
    • 3M™ No Polish Connectors
    • 3M™ Crimplok™+ Connectors
  • 3M Broadband Copper Products:
    • Patch panels
    • Patch cords
    • RJ45 copper jacks

Trainees will be required to demonstrate proficiency by successfully completing hands-on product setup and installation.

3M™ One Pass Fiber Pathway is a horizontal cable pathway and single mode fiber distribution solution installed on the wall just below the ceiling. For installers interested in these fiber pathway solutions, training will be provided for:

  • 3M One Pass Fiber Pathway Hallway
  • 3M One Pass Fiber Pathway Mini

Trainees will be required to demonstrate use of the wall compatibility test kit and to successfully complete hands-on product setup and installation.

CIP and CI Certification

A system warranty is extended by 3M to the end user when 3M Products are properly installed, tested and registered by a Certified Integration Professional (CIP) or Certified Installer (CI).

Upon successful completion of training, the Certified Integration Professional (CIP) or Certified Installer (CI) will be given a certificate with a registration number. This number must be part of the warranty application. An installer must be a CIP or CI to apply for an installed system warranty.
