Warranty

Limited Warranty

  • The 3M™ Mobile Projector (the “3M product”) is warranted to be free from defects in material or manufacture for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase.
  • All other accessories included with the 3M product are warranted to be free from defects in material or manufacture for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase.
  • Optional product accessories that are not sold as part of the 3M product are subject to individual warranties.

THE WARRANTIES STATED ABOVE ARE EXCLUSIVE AND ARE MADE IN PLACE OF ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES‚ EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS‚ INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE‚ OR ANY INDUSTRY PRACTICE OR CUSTOM OR TRADE USAGE.

In the event the 3M product fails to conform to the above stated warranties within the applicable warranty period‚ your exclusive remedy shall be‚ at 3M’s option‚ to replace or repair the 3M product or to refund the purchase price of the 3M product. All replaced parts or products become property of 3M. If the product is repaired‚ 3M will repair the defective part(s) with a new or used part(s). If the 3M product is replaced‚ 3M will replace the 3M product with the same or equivalent model and with a new or refurbished 3M product. In the case of an approved warranty claim‚ the replacement 3M product will carry only the remaining term of the original 3M product’s warranty period as stated above. For warranty service‚ you must provide proof of the date of the original purchase else the manufacturing code date will be used to establish the start date of the warranty. The following are exclusions to the above listed warranty:

  1. This warranty does not cover 3M product that is modified or damaged through improper storage‚ misuse‚ abuse‚ accident‚ vandalism‚ improper installation‚ neglect‚ improper shipping‚ damage caused by acts of war‚ disasters such as fire‚ flood‚ and lightning‚ improper electrical current‚ software problems‚ interaction with non-3M products‚ or service other than by an 3M Authorized Service Provider‚ neglect or mishandling by any person. Normal wear and tear is not covered under warranty.
  2. 3M product is designed to operate in the typical indoor environment. This warranty does not cover 3M product used outside of the following circumstances:
    • 100V – 240V AC‚ 50/60 Hz
    • 10° – 30°C (50° – 86°F)
    • 10 – 80% RH (without condensation)
    • 0 – 1829 m (0 – 6000 feet) above sea leve
  3. The air intake and exhaust vent must be clear of obstructions. Inadequate air ventilation will cause the 3M product to malfunction or will cause damage to the 3M product which will void the warranty.
  4. This warranty does not cover any additional costs including‚ but not limited to‚ those associated with removal‚ cleaning or installation of the 3M product‚ adjustments‚ (mechanical or electronic) made to the 3M product.
  5. This warranty covers only normal use of the product. 24-hour-per-day or other excessive continual use causes strain and is not considered normal use.
  6. This warranty does not cover consumables (e.g.‚ batteries).
  7. This warranty is not transferable.
  8. 3M is not responsible for warranty service should the 3M label or logo or the rating label or serial number be removed unless otherwise stated in writing for the purposes of private labeling for partnership requirements.
  9. This warranty does not cover postage‚ insurance‚ or shipping costs incurred in presenting your 3M product for warranty service. Said costs are the customer’s responsibility. If a claimed defect cannot be identified or reproduced in service‚ the customer may be held responsible for cost incurred. Should your warranty upgrade include a “change out” service and the claimed defect cannot be identified or reproduced by the technician‚ the customer will be responsible for call out costs.

EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY STATED IN THE APPLICABLE 3M PRODUCT MANUAL‚ 3M SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT‚ INCIDENTAL‚ SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING‚ BUT NOT LIMITED TO‚ LOSS OF PROFITS‚ REVENUE OR BUSINESS) RESULTING FROM‚ OR IN ANY WAY RELATED TO PERFORMANCE‚ USE OR INABILITY TO USE ANY OF THE 3M PRODUCT. This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory upon which damages are sought.

For warranty support‚ please call or write your local 3M office or a 3M Authorized Service Provider to obtain an RMA # (Return Material Authorization number) before returning the product. What 3M Will Do To Correct Problems:

  • If your 3M product requires service‚ 3M will ask you to bring or send the 3M product‚ securely packaged in its original container or equivalent‚ along with proof of the date of original purchase‚ to your 3M Service Dealer or 3M Service Center.
  • 3M will‚ at its option‚ repair or replace the defective unit without charge for parts or labor. Return of the 3M product will be at 3M’s expense.
  • When warranty service involves the exchange of the 3M product or of a part‚ the item replaced becomes 3M property.
  • The exchanged 3M product or part may be new or previously refurbished to the 3M standard of quality‚ and at 3M’s option‚ the replacement may be another model of like kind and quality.
  • 3M’s liability for replacement of the warranted 3M product or part will not exceed the original retail selling price of the 3M product. Exchange or replacement products or parts assume the remaining warranty period of the product covered by this limited warranty.

Q: What comes with the MP220 projector?
A: The projector comes with the projector, power adapter, battery, documentation, and USB cable.

Q: Can I purchase the Premium version of Documents To Go?
A: No, the MP220 does not have a network connection such Wi-Fi or mobile network. Therefore, you cannot register or upgrade Documents To Go. When you come to the registration screen, select Later. 3M is providing the basic version of Documents to Go and the registration screen appear by default.

Q: Can I register Documents To Go™?

Q: Can I charge the battery using the USB port?
A: No. The projector battery can only be charged by the power adapter that comes with the projector.

A: The projector is compatible with microSD™ cards up to 32GB.

A: The projector supports GIF, PNG, BMP, and JPG.

Q: What office files does the projector support?
A: The projector uses the basic version of Documents To Go and it supports the following file formats:
Microsoft Office 97 – 2004 (.doc, xls,.ppt)
Microsoft Office 2007-2008/2010 (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx)

Q: Does the projector support PDF file format?
A: Yes.

Q: How long does it take to charge the battery?
A: It takes about three hours to fully charge the battery when the projector is off and up to six hours when the projector is being used.

Q: What is the battery life once it is fully charged?
A: When new and fully charged, the battery will last about 2 hours while in standard brightness mode (Brightness set to minimum).

Q: What happens if I overcharge the battery?
A: There are protection circuits in the projector and the battery that prevent over charging.

Q: If my battery is dead‚ can I use the power adapter to power the projector?
A: You can use the power adapter with the projector.

Q: Are there any replacement parts in the projector?
A: Yes, the battery is replaceable.

Q: Can I replace the lamp?
A: NO. The light source is a LED and cannot be replaced.

Q: How do I update the software (firmware) on the Mobile Projector?
A: Go to the How To Documents section and follow the directions for updating software.

Q: How do I clean the projector lens?
A: A cotton swab is a good tool for cleaning the lens. When cleaning the lens‚ hold the lens in place using the focus knob and then gently remove the dust and dirt. Do not use harsh chemicals like acetone because it will damage the lens and other plastic parts.

Q: Can I use this projector in other countries?
A: Yes‚ the power supply has interchangeable outlet adapters. Before you plug the power adapter into a wall outlet make sure the outlet voltage is compatible with the voltage rating marked on the power adapter label.

Q: Is there a small stand or tripod available for the 3M Mobile Projector?
A: Yes, there is a 3M desktop tripod available. The projector does have a standard 20-1/4” tripod mounting point in the event you want to mount the projector to a camera tripod.

Q: Can I connect my Apple® Computer?
A: Yes‚ connect your Apple computer using the optional 3M VGA cable and an Apple VGA adapter are required. Set the Mac resolution to VGA‚ SVGA, WSVGA or XGA. Apple computers require the Apple VGA adapter. For additional information‚ check the “How to Section” of this website.

 

How To Tips

Connecting to a Computer running Microsoft Windows

What you need:

  1. Computer with VGA port
    Note: Some computers (or notebooks) will require a VGA adapter.
  2. 3M VGA cable
  3. 3M Projector

Connecting a computer to the projector

  1. Turn on both the projector and the computer.
  2. Connect the VGA cable to the VGA/AV port on the projector.
  3. Connect the VGA cable to the VGA port on the computer.
  4. The computer should automatically detect the projector and output your desktop image.

Notes about the 3M Mobile Projector:

  1. When you connect the VGA cable to the projector‚ the video/VGA pass through application will open.
  2. When the computer outputs a VGA signal‚ the projector will detect‚ display the input resolution and image.
  3. For best results, set the computer's resolution to WSVGA (1024x600). The projector will scale (or compress) input resolutions that are greater than WSVGA.
Troubleshooting Notes:
  • If the projector does not detect an input signal‚ press FN button and monitor button at the same time to toggle through the computer’s different display modes ( LCD‚ Monitor‚ or Both). The monitor button is different on every computer. Most monitor buttons have one of the following on it: LCD/CRT‚ icon‚ etc.
  • If the input resolution is not one of the following resolutions: VGA‚ SVGA‚ XGA‚ WSVGA or WXGA (1280 × 768)‚ the projector will display the lost connect with “Lost computer source connection.” or “Mode not supported.” message.
Connecting to a computer running Mac OS 10

You will need the following:

  1. Apple Computer.
  2. Apple VGA adapter.
  3. 3M Mobile Projector.
  4. 3M Mobile Projector VGA cable.

Connecting the computer and projector

  1. Attach the Apple VGA adapter to the Apple Computer.
  2. Attach the 3M cable to the projector.
  3. Connect the cables.
  4. Turn on the projector and the computer.

Displaying an image on the 3M MP220

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
  2. Choose Displays.
  3. Click Detect Displays.
  4. Click Gather Windows.
  5. Select the projector display pane.
  6. Confirm the Resolution setting is 800 × 600‚ 1024 × 768‚ or 1280 × 768.
  7. Confirm the Refresh Rate is 60 Hertz.

NOTE: For best results, set the computer resolution to WSVGA (1024x600) to match the projector's native resolution. The projector will scale (or compress) input resolutions that are greater than WSVGA.

Uploading the files to the projector using your computer

Whether your computer is running Microsoft® Windows® or Apple® Mac OS 10, uploading the files on to the projector is quick and easy.

Here is what you need:

  1. The 3M Projector
  2. USB cable (included with the 3M MP220 projector)
  3. Your computer

Steps

  1. Turn on the projector.
  2. Turn on your computer.
  3. Connect the projector to your computer using the USB cable.
  4. The projector screen will display the Mass Storage Screen.

  5. Select the Turn on USB Storage by pressing the Touch Sensor in the middle of the keypad.
  6. A new drive will appear in your computer’s file browser.
  7. Now you are ready to transfer the files from your computer to the projector.
  8. Once you are done moving you files to your computer, you can disconnect the USB cable.
 

Troubleshooting

The projector will not turn on.

  • A charged battery is not installed or the power adapter is not connected to the projector and a working wall outlet.
  • Hold down the power button until the projector powers up.

The Status Indicator is flashing red when the power button is held down.

  • The battery needs to be charged.

The image is not visible or is very dim.

  • The 3M MP160 is a battery operated projector and requires controlled lighting conditions. The image may appear very dim in brightly lit rooms.
  • Make sure the status indicator is green. This indicates that the projector is powered on and projecting an image.
  • Project the image onto a flat‚ white surface.
  • Decrease the light on the surface where the image is being projected.
  • Decrease the size of the image.

The projector is making a noise.

  • The projector has a small fan for cooling the LED light source. The fan turns on and off automatically based on the projector’s internal temperature. The fan will turn on more often in warm environments or at high altitudes.
  • The speakers make noise when the component AV cable is not correctly connected to the video device. There are two red connectors on the component AV cable. One is for the right audio channel and the other is for the Pr component video signal. If these connectors are switched‚ the projected image will appear green and an abnormal noise will come from the right speaker.

Status Indicator lights.

Solid Green Projector is On.
Slow Flashing Green The projector’s lamp is off but rest of the projector is still on. Press any button to turn on the projector’s lamp.
Solid Amber The projector is off and battery is charging.
Flashing Amber The projector has overheated and needs to cool.
Flashing Red The battery power is getting low and needs to be charged.
Flashes Red Twice, Pause and then Repeats The battery cannot be charged.
