As copper electrowinning tankhouses get larger and current densities increase, the potential hazard from airborne sulfuric acid grows. For over twenty-five years 3M has produced industry-leading acid mist suppressants to help control the amount of sulfuric acid in the air - contributing to a safer working environment.
The advantages of using a fluorochemical mist suppressant have been
proven over years of industry use to lower concentrations of airborne
sulfuric acid, thereby helping improve worker safety and reduce
structural corrosion.
3M™ Fluorad™ Mist Control Agent FC-1100 is a significant
step forward in technology. It provides a quick-draining, short-term
foam blanket at the surface of the electrowinning cell and is effective
at low concentrations. The advantages of FC-1100 are great:
- Low foaming puts more surfactant to work on mist reduction
- Low effective concentration means lower losses and less potential for interference with the SX-EW circuit
- Low concentration level improves cost effectiveness of the EW process
- May be used alone or in conjunction with mechanical barriers
