Anaerobic Procedure for Lactic Acid Bacteria Testing


Anaerobic Procedure*:
The 3M™ Petrifilm™ Aerobic Count Plate enumerates total aerobic bacteria present in the sample tested. Following a simple protocol they can also be used for enumerating anaerobic bacteria for processed meats and in high acid foods.

Fast, accurate, results in 48 hours with three easy steps:
1. Inoculate - 3M™ Petrifilm™ Plates are easy to inoculate. Lift the top film and add sample.
2. Incubate - The space saving design maximizes incubator space.
3. Enumerate - A red indicator dye in the plate colors all colonies red. This 3M Petrifilm Plate can also be read in 4 seconds using the 3M™ Petrifilm™ Plate Reader.

The unique construction of the 3M Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plates makes it possible to distinguish gas-producing heterofermentative organisms from non-gas-producing homofermenters. The addition of MRS broth to 3M Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plates, in combination with anaerobic incubation enhances the growth of lactobacilli and other lactic acid bacteria in high acid/high products and processed meat products.

*3M Petrifilm Plate performance has not been evaluated with all combinations of microbial flora, incubation conditions and food matrixes. It is the user's responsibility to determine that any test methods and results meet the user's requirements.
