Residual protein test which indicates whether a surgical instrument has been cleaned sufficiently for sterilization to be effective.
3M™ Clean-Trace™ Surface Protein High Sensitivity offers equivalent sensitivity to the Ninhydrin test as specified by UK sterile service guidelines HTM2030 and the draft EU guidelines ISO15883. It requires no harmful chemicals, high temperature ovens or fume cabinets. This 3M test can detect small amounts of protein such as blood or body tissue verifying the efficacy of the washing process. The size and flexibility of the test allows easy sampling of hard to reach places on complex instruments such as serrated edges or box joints. A green result means the instrument tested is sufficiently clean and ready for the sterilization process. If the color is grey or purple it means there is protein remaining on the surgical instrument and re-cleaning of the entire batch should take place.
