Winter Coat Drive Benefiting the Watershed
The Communication & Recognition Team sponsored a winter coat drive to help keep people in need warm during the winter. From November 12 through December 11, 2012, employees collected 27 gently used and new coats to donate to the Watershed Human and Community Development Agency. The coats were delivered to the Watershed on Friday, December 14.
3M Volunteers Making a Difference at Our House
From September through December 2012, 3M provided lunch monthly for the residents at Our House. Our House is a shelter for the working homeless. The shelter provides individuals and families with housing, job training and education, childcare and summer youth programs to equip them with the necessities to be successful in reestablishing their lives. A different project leader led the effort each month. They planned the menu, purchased food and supplies, and recruited volunteers. Twelve volunteers cooked and served lunch for more than 120 individuals at the shelter over a four-month period. Other volunteer activities include Mock Interviews with Human Resources and a workplace safety presentation by the plant’s EHS Engineer.
Arkansas Food Bank Receives Donation from the 3M Food Bank Fundraiser
Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Little Rock Performance System (LRPS) Pillar Teams challenged each other to raise money for the Arkansas Food Bank during our annual can food drive. Every dollar donated provides three meals to feed a hungry Arkansan. On November 8, Newell Page, Joanne Nichols and Gwen McGraw delivered $717.00 and two large boxes of non-perishable goods to the Arkansas Food Bank. The employee contributions were in addition to the $1500.00 gift the organization received from the 3M Little Rock Facility earlier in the year.
3M Fall Supplies for Schools Program
Booker Arts Magnet Elementary School, Horace Mann Magnet Middle School and Carver Magnet Elementary School were selected to participate in the 3M Supplies for Schools program during the fall. Each school received an assortment of 3M products FREE of charge valued at approximately $6,650.00. Upon receiving the supply orders, members of the Little Rock community relations team visited each school. The 3M Supplies for Schools program is by invitation only and is open to schools K-12 in communities where 3M plants are located.
Second Annual Doctor’s Day at 3M Little Rock Facility
The Second Annual Doctor’s Day was Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at the 3M Little Rock Facility. The purpose of provider night is to allow physicians as well as their staff that support the facility to gain a better understanding of 3M’s disability program. It also serves as an opportunity for us to get to know the health care facilities that support the Little Rock plant. The program began with a tour of the granule facility followed by dinner along with plant presentations. Other highlights included health and wellness programs, safety program, employee assistance program, Little Rock Performance System, and an overview of the 3M Corporate Medical Department by Dr. Betsy Buehrer, the keynote speaker.
We Care of Pulaski County Receives $1,500 Donation from 3M
We Care of Pulaski County received a $1500 donation in August 2012 to support youth education and community outreach programs that provide basic family needs. We Care serves the communities of Southeast Pulaski County including Sweet Home, Higgins, Wrightsville, Woodson and Hensley. We Care works for social justice and aims to empower disadvantaged people by meeting basic needs and building self-sufficiency.
3M Sponsors “Head of the Class Bash"
Just in time for school, 1500 children received free backpacks filled with school supplies thanks to 3M and the William J. Clinton Presidential Center. The Head of the Class Bash was held on August 18, as a part of the Second Annual Back-to-School Family Festival at the Clinton Center. Three special guests: Governor Mike Beebe, First Lady Ginger Beebe and State Representative Darrin Williams helped hand out the backpacks, which contain and assortment of 3M School supplies. The event was full of festivities for both children and adults alike, including two science demonstrations by the 3M Visiting Wizards.
Economics Arkansas’ REAL Econ for All Conference
The 3M Little Rock plant continues with its community affairs efforts by partnering with Economic Arkansas in its first economics and personal finance professional conference. The two-day conference was held July 18-19, 2012, at the Hilton Little Rock Metro Center. The conference provided high–caliber professional development to over 300 Arkansas educators. The goal of the conference was to empower teachers to integrate real life economic concepts into the classroom, as a means to increase the economic literacy of Arkansas students who will soon be adults navigating in a global economy. During the conference Jesse Laing, EHS Manager, and Kevin Moseley, Human Resources Manager presented 3M: The Economics of a Global Company.

3M Participates in College Station’s Annual Homecoming Parade
On July 4, 2012, 3M volunteers gave candy and several 3M products to parade watchers. Todd Cantrell along with his wife Pam and daughter Alyssa, Kevin Moseley, Jesse Laing, Kristy Hicks and Gwen McGraw volunteered in College Station’s Annual Homecoming Parade.
3M is Proud to Sponsor Three Horace Mann Teachers in the Key Issues Institute
Three teachers from Horace Mann Magnet School was awarded sponsorship in the Keystone Center’s Key Issues Institute, a national teacher professional development training program that brings environmental issues to the classroom. The teachers will participate in a weeklong session during the summer at the Key Issues Institute in Silverthorne, Colorado.
65th Anniversary Celebration
Little Rock celebrated its 65th Anniversary on May 21, 2012. The celebration included a catered luncheon and each employee received a commemorative gift, an engraved red 16 oz. duo insulated tumbler.
3M Awards College Station Elementary School $10K for Education
College Station Elementary received a $10,000 3M Ingenuity Grant. On Tuesday, May 8, 2012, Michael Hart and Kevin Moseley, Human Resources Manager at the 3M Little Rock, presented the teachers and school principal with the check. The grant will establish the first science lab at the school for students in grades1-5.
3M Spring School Supplies Program
Little Rock Central High School, Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School and McClellan Magnet High School received wonderful 3M products free of charge. Products range from Post-it® Notes to ACETM Elastic2’ Self Adhering Bandages. The 3M Spring School Supplies Program is by invitation only.
Todd Speaks at The Stock Market Game Awards Luncheon
Todd Cantrell, Plant Manager at the 3M Little Rock facility, congratulated students that participated in the spring 2012 Arkansas Stock Market Game at the Economics Arkansas luncheon held at the Verizon Arena on May 2, 2012. Todd emphasized the importance of students in elementary through high school learning about stocks.
3M Little Rock Partners with College Station Residents for Clean Up College Station Day
On April 2, 2012, 3M Little Rock employees volunteered to help clean up roadsides in the College Station neighborhood. Special guests that also participated include State Representative Darrin Williams, former State Representative Wilma Walker and Dexter Doyne of the Progressive League of College Station. Volunteers committed to pick up roadside litter from the primary streets that border the plant as well as to clear piles of trash off 3M’s property.
